An interview with
K.C. Hilton

Born and raised in Aurora, Illinois I spent my childhood climbing trees and playing street games with the neighborhood kids. I was a proud tomboy, until the day I didn’t want to hike the land to an old graveyard. From that point forward I was considered a “girl”.

At the age of seventeen I moved to Kentucky and eventually began to raise a family of my own. Having worn several “hats” my life has been an adventure all on its own. Still, to this day, I yearns to be a mechanic and owns a pink toolbox with pink tools.

I can usually be found updating my website, reading great books, watching awesome movies or creating videos for my YouTube channel. Most days I craves Diet Coke, pizza and chocolate, in no particular order.

I don’t read scary books or watch horror movies… I’m way too scared! Lol.

What inspired you to twist our concept of time when creating your version of Rapunzel?

I didn't want my Rapunzel to be confined to the tower, that would be boring. My question was, if Rapunzel could roam the castle and the grounds, go to town every fifty years or so and eventually have internet, why would she ever be bitter (aside from living with a witch and a dragon)? I wanted readers to feel her pain and sorrow in a different way. To have eternal life would add more grief to her world. Watching her loved ones die, time after time, as well as not being able to have friends, in fear of them finding out about the curse. Living forever comes with a price and Rapunzel paid that price for 250 years. The curse caused her to be bitter. Living that long Rapunzel would experience and see many changes in the world and she mentions meeting the Grimm brothers and talks about the witch hunts. Living 250 years has advantages but it has more disadvantages, in my opinion.

What was your favorite part of writing MY NAME IS RAPUNZEL? The hardest?

I enjoyed writing all of it, but my favorite parts were adding in the little things, such as the description of the castle, the hall of horrors, Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the Grimm Brothers, and Goldie. I also enjoyed writing the correspondence letters between Rapunzel and John Jenkins. The hardest part was making sure Rapunzel's dates matched up with the time and place the Grimm brothers lived and ensuring the witch hunts were still going on during a certain time period. The dates of the timeline were important and they had to be exact, with everything.

MY NAME IS RAPUNZEL is your debut novel. What can we hope to see from you next? More fairy tales, I hope?

Oh, I have so many ideas running through my mind. I just need to grab one and go with it. I'm waiting for one, of the many, to tug at me a little harder. Until then, I'm taking notes on different things. I do love the fairy tales and hope to do another one, soon.

How would you keep from going crazy if you were locked in a tower (or satellite!) with finite resources?

I'd hope to have a library full of books and magazines or I'd go insane! Thankfully my Rapunzel isn't confined to the tower and can roam the castle and its grounds. She also has access to the internet (in Part 2). If I had what my Rapunzel has, then I'd be fine. Although, it would be a lonely life.

Today, you're Rapunzel's hair stylist. She's come to you for a new look and wants to be surprised. What do you do?

I wouldn't want to shock her, so I'd probably go slow at first. I'd cut the length of her hair to her waist and give her some light bangs. If she didn't freak out at that point, then I'd probably go a little shorter, think Jennifer Aniston's long hair style with layers and an angle to frame her face. If she wanted to be more like Pepper, then I'd go all out and give her a shoulder length bob-cut.

If you were sentenced to life alone in a tower (or satellite!), what is the one thing you'd make sure to smuggle in with you?

My laptop! I could at least have connection with the outside world and connect with an online library to read books =)

What kind of craving would you risk a witch's wrath for?

Pizza, chocolate and Diet Coke! I'd fight the witch and the dragon to get any of them!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
MY NAME IS RAPUNZEL has been on my radar

O F F I C I A L   I N F O:

Title:  MY NAME IS RAPUNZEL
Author: K.C. Hilton
Release Date: Nov. 22, 2013
Publisher: K.C. Hilton
SUMMARY:

My tale has been told again and again, and I’ve heard each one. Except for my hair, I barely recognize the pitiful renditions. Muddled versions, crafted to entertain laughing children…but the children wouldn’t have laughed if they’d known the real story. It wasn't their fault. They didn't know the truth. Nobody did.

My name is Rapunzel. I will tell you my story. I will tell you the truth.

  1. I am in love in love with the book cover. It seem very interesting take on the fairy tale.

  2. This is a book I want to read so bad. I really don't want to buy the book, but get it from a library, but I have to wait to inter-library loan it. I have to wait a few more months, but I will hopefully be able to read it soon. I don't have anything against buying books just personally when I buy them they go unread so I support my local library.

    1. I have SO MANY unread books right now! *shifty eyes* I find that I read more review copies than I do my own books, unless it's during events such as this! And when I HAVE that time, I get sick and don't get to read them anyway. LOL!

I wish my local library had more of what I loved...especially as e-books!

  5. What an interesting take on the story. I am a huge peter pan fan, so the little teaser about Peter and Tink really caught my eye.
